Update from Lucinda 8-4-03

Dear Friends and Family,

We drove around the Plaza (Tull and Marker's first such trip) and Tull wept like a baby to see his beloved downtown Santa Fe for the first time since last October.

This afternoon Lucinda wept like a baby as Tull very courageously took his first stair step up (into one of the only doorways that Jeff F. and I decided not to put a ramp) and then turned around and took his first stair step down. PT Terry was very proud and Lucinda was easily as afraid as Tull was in those moments. Then Tull went on to stand at his walker, but without holding onto it or anything else for perhaps 30 seconds. He kept his focus and composure, but was so damn proud that he almost had a fit. This was just a day full of very happy tears.

Can you believe that we feel like a couple of the luckiest people in the world?

Love to all of you and thanks so much for your messages (we really love the fact that you all are talking to each other on our website).

John and Lucinda

Update from Lucinda 8-8-03

Dear Friends and Family,

Tull showed off a while for his nurses by strutting up and down the portal. Pollard made adjustments on the new mega expensive manual wheelchair (not the Tullminator) while Kate and Mac Smith came by so that Mac could water all the plants as he has been doing for some time. Tull told 20 or so jokes this afternoon and walked at least 5 times as many feet as jokes told. Lucinda tried to ignore as much of this activity and laugh as little as possible so she could get some damn work done. We had a blast today.

Love,

John and Lucinda

Update August 13, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

This is Lucinda writing from the fair city of Dayton, Ohio. I am here taking care of a few matters for my mother and grandmother (a trip that was originally planned for November 6, 2002). I managed to get away because John Tull has become much stronger and because our dear friend John Wheir had a few days to be away from his law office and personal life in Amarillo to stay at our house to care for JHT. They are having a great time. (They were seen shopping at Whole Paycheck today.)

This is, however, our first time away from each other since the onset of the plague and it is difficult for us both. We are tuly each other's rock. This could not have happened even two weeks ago, and it is great that the Tullster is doing so well (and that I am able to extricate myself for a few days). I must tell you all that the moment I left Santa Fe I felt a sense of relief from my caretaking duties while feeling a huge whole in my heart from being away from the love of my life.

By the way, we all knew that Roland's baby would be born as soon as I left. It's a girl. Love to the bambina, Jennifer and Roland.

Love,
Lucinda
